Illustrations

Rob Court has been an illustrator and graphic designer for more than 30 years. Rob has worked with publishers such as The Walt Disney Company, Scholastic, Los Angeles Times, and Los Angeles magazine. He uses colored pencils, acrylic paints, watercolor paints, ink, and digital software to create illustrations. An illustration is a picture or drawing that helps to tell a story.

Art directors contact Rob to create illustrations for stories or magazine articles. First, he sends a pencil sketch, by fax or email, showing how an illustration will look. After the art director approves the sketch, Rob finishes the illustration in color. Rob says, "It takes a lot of practice to become a professional illustrator, but it's worth it. I can earn a living while drawing pictures, and that's great!"

Whether he's sketching ideas for illustration projects or sketching with Fax Academy students, Rob draws every day. He is always imagining new things to draw and carries a sketchbook wherever he goes. He says, "Trees are always a fun challenge! Each one has its own personality and the more time you spend drawing trees, the more you learn about nature."

Rob Court's art studio is in Santa Cruz County, California. He enjoys mountain biking, skateboarding, surfing, and reading - especially about other artists. He has written and illustrated 29 books and started the Scribbles Institute to help young artists learn about drawing and visual art. For more information about Rob please go to RobCourt.com
