The exciting world of drawing awaits you! As your skills become more advanced, new techniques will open doors to discovering your very own style of drawing. Part of the fun is exploring different kinds of pencils made specifically for drawing. We suggest purchasing a 6B, 4B, and HB pencil at your local art store. To learn more about pencils click here. A cartoonish lizard, shown below, is a fun way to experiment with your new drawing pencils. Things to Draw: Scroll down to draw a lizard, a dinosaur, a realistic face, a Humvee, a beautiful bird, or a race car. Texture: How the surface of something feels is called texture. Repeating lines and shapes creates patterns, and patterns show the textures on the lizard. Notice how lines make the texture underneath the lizard. Knowing how to draw textures will come in handy for the next lesson. You'd better get a whole sheet of paper to draw the huge dinosaur, shown below.

Bringing a Triceratops to Life With Outlines: This lesson starts with the basic shapes for the powerful muscles, body, and head of the Triceratops. Carefully drawn outlines show the form of its body and horns. >Step-by-Step Lesson Drawing a Realistic Face: This lesson starts with the basic shape of the skull. Next, you'll draw guidelines to position the features on the young woman's face, then finish with outlines and contour lines for her facial features and hair. >Step-by-Step Lesson >Student Drawing
Getting a Perspective on Things: Perspective drawing was invented during the period of history called the Renaissance (1400-1580). Perspective gives your drawings a 3-D look. Some parts of the drawing will appear to be close and some farther away. This lesson takes you through the steps to draw a Humvee military vehicle in perspective. >Step-by-Step Lesson >Student Drawing

Drawing What You See: The egret, shown at left, is holding a pose for you. Look for the basic shapes to start drawing this majestic bird. Where the dark green background meets the white form of the bird helps you see the edges of its head, neck, and body. Carefully draw outlines for the edges of the egret's form. To help you see more details, you'll find a large picture of the egret in Sketchy's Challenge. >Sketchy's Challenge >The drawing coach can help you draw the egret. Jennifer F. was up for Sketchy's Challenge! Check out her drawing of a race car, shown below.

This lesson can be found in Jennifer's Drawing Studio > Sketchy's Race Car Challenge >3-D Dragster Lesson
Note: Some of the lessons were drawn on a computer, so your pencil lines may look a little lighter and rougher around the edges.
